ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE: A batch of 64 students appeared for the Matriculation Examination in March 1999 and all of them passed meritoriously. 61 of them secured first class and 3 second class. Another group of 76 pupils appeared for their XII Examination and all of them passed with merit. HOUSE SYSTEM, CLUBS AND CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES: The rhythm of study, sports and extra curricular activities is greatly accelerated when there exists a spirit of competition. The students are divided into four teams under the names of Bosco, Savio, Rua and Thomas. The performance of the students in studies, sports, discipline, regularity in doing duties and co-curricular activities are constantly assessed and marks are allotted accordingly. Every Wednesday the captain of the winner house, is called on to hoist his house flag. We have set apart an hour during the week specifically for co-curricular activities. It is conducted classwise to provide more avenues for the students to develop their potentialities. The various clubs of the school also provide opportunities to the students. This year on 16th July Very Rev.Fr.Xavier, Vicar General, Diocese of Thanjavur, presided over the Inauguration of the House System and Clubs. This year English and Tamil Elocution Competitions, Tamil Essay Writing Competition, Drawing, Singing, Dance and Fancy Dress Competitions were conducted classwise. Several students got opportunities to exhibit their talents. The school gives much importance to Catechism and Moral Science Education. Every morning the first period is allotted to inculcate into the minds of the children good moral values that would make them good and honest citizens. This is a unique feature of our school. ANNUAL RETREATS: The Catholic Teachers made their two day retreat at Velankanni conducted by Diocesan Pastrol Commission. The Catholic students attended the retreat in the school campus. It was preached by Rev.Fr.Peter Gnanasekar. Four Priests from the Diocesan Pastoral Centre conducted the renewal day on 14th October 1999 for our Hr.Sec. Students. The sessions on Career Guidance, Personality Development, Stress Management, Leadership Training and Overcoming Examination fear were very helpful to them. CELEBRATIONS DURING THE YEAR: ANNUAL DAY : On 6th February 1999 we celebrated the Sixteenth Annual School Day. EDUCATIONAL TOUR : A batch of 120 students accompanied by 7 members of the staff went on an Educational Tour to Bangalore, Ooty and Mysore from 25th to 28th September. SCIENCE DAY : The Science Day was celebrated on 18th November. There was a grand Science Exhibition to enable the budding scientists to come out with their exhibits. Rev.Sr.May, the Headmistress of Auxilium Hr. Sec. School, was the Chief Judge. The school also celebrated the Teachers Day, the Children's Day, the Festivals of Deepavali and Pongal with gaiety. The students imbibed the spirit of these solemn occasions and took part in the programmes with greater enthusiasm. These functions are a help to all the students to promote greater devotion to God, love and respect for one another and establish harmony in the neighbourhood. ACTS OF CHARITY: "Let every hand give comfort to all living beings and let it be the giver of health to the whole mankind " - is a quote from Rig Veda. Apart from the academic studies, the school stresses the importance of the social awareness. A student of Don Bosco without concern for others is not a fully formed person. An Act of Charity done to needy is done to God Himself. In line with this thought, the students made use of several opportunities to express their solidarity with the poor and the needy of the town. An amount of Rs.4,594 was presented to a poor boy of Trichy as a part of the expense for his open heart surgery. To share the joy of Christmas, the students generously contributed to collect old clothes, Medicine and Rs.10,355 to be shared with the needy. A part of this amount was sent to the flood affected victims in Orissa. On the Caring and Sharing day on 7th Dec. the students distributed sweets to the deserving people at Jouvenile Home, Guild of Service for Girls, Seva Samajam for boys, T.M.S.S.S. Leprosy Quarters, Ursula Orphanage Home and Our Lady of Health Hospital. Our students also visited these Institutes and spent their time with the inmates. On 21st December, our students celebrated the Christmas Tree in the Juvenile Home. Thiru M.Rajaram, Dist.Collector, was the Chief Guest. On 23rd January 2OOO, our school along with Auxilium Higher Secondary School organised the Sound of Music to collect funds to help the children of the slums in Chennai. The show was presented by the Blind of Montfort Community Development Society, Chennai, under the able leadership of Bro.Patrick. LAURELS WON BY OUR SCHOOL :
As I conclude the Annual Report, I would like to express my deep sense of gratitude to the General Secretary of the PTA, Mr.Srinivasan, the Members of the Executive Body and the parents of the school. Your suggestions served as guidelines and your feed back as evaluation. Thanks for being with us in our efforts to offer the best quality education. The school is what it is precisely because of the members of the staff. Their dedication to the cause of education and their commitment to this work makes our school what it is today, one of the leading schools in Thanjavur. Thank you dear members of the staff. Finally, I thank God, who is the source of our very being for his continual loving presence which we have experienced in all the activities of the school. Thank you, |
